How to Set Up Apple Pay on an Apple Watch

You can set up Apple Pay on your Apple Watch using available cards in the Wallet app on your iPhone or with a new card. Additionally, you can add these cards using the Wallet app on your Apple Watch or the Watch app on your iPhone.

How to Add Cards in the Wallet App on Apple Watch

If you’re wearing your Apple Watch, you can add cards to use with Apple Pay in just a few taps.

  1. Open theWallet app on your Apple Watch.
  2. Choose theMore menu (three horizontal dots).
  3. SelectAdd Card .

  4. For an existing card, pickPrevious Cards and select one.
  5. For a new card, pickDebit or Credit Card (or Apple Account or Transit Card) and thenContinue .

  6. Adjust your name if necessary and enter the card number and additional details, and then selectContinue .
  7. Follow the subsequent prompts to complete the setup, depending on the card you’re adding.
    For a new card, you may need to verify your identity with the card issuer.

How to Add Cards in the Watch App on an iPhone

If you prefer, you can add cards for Apple Pay using the Watch app on your iPhone.

  1. Open theWatch app on your paired iPhone and go tothe My Watch tab
  2. SelectWallet & Apple Pay .

    • PickAdd Card .

    • Either scan your card in the frame that appears on the screen, or chooseEnter Card Details Manually .
  6. Follow the subsequent prompts to complete the process. You may need to authorize any new cards you add.

How to Pay With an Apple Watch

Once you have Apple Pay set up on your Apple Watch, you can use it to make in-store purchases, app purchases, and person-to-person payments by sending or requesting money.

When visiting a retailer , look for the Apple Pay or contactless payment symbol during checkout.

If you’re able to use Apple Pay, double-press theside button (the rectangular button on the right).

  • To pay with your default payment card, hold your Apple Watch near the card reader.
  • To use a different card in your Wallet, scroll down to the card you want to use. When the card is highlighted, hold your Watch near the card reader.

If wrist detection is disabled, you’ll be asked for your passcode each time you use Apple Pay.

Use Apple Pay in an App

This is another handy option for making a purchase in an app on your Apple Watch. Participating retailers will provide the Apple Pay option during checkout.

SelectApple Pay , review the amount, shipping, and billing details, and double-press theside button to make your purchase.

Send or Request a Payment on Apple Watch

Maybe you owe a pal money or need to borrow cash from a friend. You can do both with Apple Pay on Apple Watch using the Messages app.

In theMessages conversation, tap theA button to the left of the message field and select theApple Cash button.

  • To send money, use theDigital Crown orplus sign on the screen to count up until you reach the amount you want in whole dollars. TapSend , confirm the amount, and double-press the side button.
  • To request money, swipe from right to left. Then, use theDigital Crown orplus sign to enter the amount and tapRequest .
